Old Keys Won't Open New Doors

February 21, 2022

"I am about to do a new thing;

now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?

I will make a way in the wilderness

and rivers in the desert."

Isaiah 43:19 NRSV

I went to church this past Sunday. The title of the message was "Untitled, or Not Yet Revealed". It got me thinking...isn't that every season of our life? What doesn't have a title or a purpose that we can think through or see clearly? What would we do for this season to have a title or a hope that we're moving towards? The Pastor asked us what our word or phrase for the month was. What are we keeping our eyes and minds fixed on? What are our prayers leading us towards? For me it's this: "Old Keys Won't Open New Doors"

A friend on social media posted this particular image this past week before going to bed. I saw it when I woke up, but God's timing is perfect isn't it? I read this and said...of course! So then why are we so focused on Old Keys & Old Doors? They say that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. The same can be said for where we are, and how we expect for God to show up.

For a long time I was so focused on my leadership role in one particular place. So much so that I never stopped to realize that God was already making a way in the wilderness. But as stubborn and human as I am, I somehow forgot that "Old Keys Won't Open New Doors". A Simple idea, yet it never crossed my mind. In my life I have moved quite a few times. New apartments, new homes, moved off to college and back. Can you imagine moving, going to the next place and trying to use the Old Keys to get into the New Place? That idea is not only frustrating, but when I thought of me trying to use my college dorm key to open my now home, I actually laughed. First of all, because we actually have a digital code to get into our home now, but also because it was an absurd idea. No one would ever do that. So why do we do it in our lives? Why do we try to do this in ministry? We have to turn in those Old Keys. We have to perceive that God is already making a way--the new thing is already happening! The New is here, but do you have the New Keys that God is trying to hand you to open that New Door?

Where is God taking you? What is this new thing that They are doing? What wilderness is He leading you out of? Where is the river in the desert? Do you not perceive it? What place are you that God's waiting to lead you out of in order to give you the New Keys to the New Place?
